Summary
Anson County, NC, regulates solar energy systems, with comprehensive standards outlined in its Zoning and Subdivision Ordinance. Solar farms must maintain setbacks of 100 feet from property lines, 500 feet from residences, and have inverters set at least 150 feet from property lines. Screening for solar includes a variety of options such as mature vegetation, offset evergreens, or earthen berms, all designed to provide at least 10 feet of height at maturity, with a preference for native species. A minimum 6-foot security fence is required for solar facilities. Glare from solar facilities must be minimized. A site must be restored within 12 months if no power is generated for six months, backed by a bond of no less than 15% of the property’s assessed value and the total project cost. Planning requirements include a site plan.
